Members of Vidalia Heritage Academy’s Key Club attended the Kiwanis meeting on March 29, and met Val and Lora Pavlenko, a couple from Kiev, Ukraine. Val is a pastor of a small church and is the current President of the only Kiwanis Club in the Ukraine, Lora has served as President of the Kiev Kiwanis Club. Val spoke of the service projects that his Kiwanis Club and his church were doing to ,minister to the orphans and the needy families in their community. He explained the terrible situation caused by war in the eastern Ukraine and he shared the need to reach out to those that have been devastated by the fighting and destruction of the infrastructure of that country. Val and Lora were able to talk with Valya Harrell, a Senior at VHA, who had been an orphan from the Ukraine. Valya was adopted five years ago by an American family in Laurens County and she plans to return to the Ukraine as a missionary to minister to orphans there.
