Vidalia, GA (November 2, 2015)— Vidalia Heritage Academy’s biblical mandate this year was to “Reach Beyond.” For the fourth year in a row the school will get to do just that by being the only school in Georgia selected to participate in the prestigious Harvard Model Congress, sending ten high school students to the event. The Model Congress team this year is comprised of one senior, three juniors, one sophomore, and five freshmen.
“We have five students returning this year and for four of them this will be their third consecutive year,” says Jeff McCormick, VHA Headmaster. “The maturity and insight these five are sharing with our new freshmen team members is impressive—and it will be invaluable as they get to the conference and begin debating and drafting legislation with other students from across the globe.”
Harvard Model Congress, taking place in Boston, MA, February 17-19, 2016, is our nation’s premier government simulation experience for high school students. This conference has grown to become the largest high school US government simulation in the world, bringing together more than 1,600 of the brightest high school students from all over the world. Entirely run by Harvard University students, the conference simulates the workings of the United States Congress. By providing an opportunity to see how policy is created, bills are passed, and how Congress functions, the Harvard Model Congress allows high school students to serve as Representatives, Senators, White House Staffers, Cabinet Members, Congressional Media, and Lobbyists. In addition, the students have an opportunity to sit in on Harvard classes as well as tour the historic town of Boston.
Vidalia Heritage Academy’s classical education approach equips their students to think, to organize their thoughts into viable presentations, and then defend their positions. According to McCormick, “We want our students to be world changers. I can think of no better way to positively influence our communities, our state, our nation, and the world with a biblical worldview than to have them involved with the political process at an early age.”
The estimated cost of attendance is $1000 per student but the school’s delegation is trying to reduce the cost by actively fundraising.
